Holiday childcare at a production site: an early start for the early shift, two age groups, and a week in which the children actually finish something.
At a site where things are built, bolted together and tinkered with, the theme suggests itself. The children get their own workshop week: plan, build, test – and rebuild whatever did not work the first time.
The group ranges from primary to lower secondary age. Both age groups start separately and come back together for big games and excursions. The older ones take on small buddy roles – it changes the group noticeably.
And yes: a failed attempt is part of building. That is exactly the point.
This is what a Kinderkamp week could look like. Every day has its own focus – and still enough air for the children to decide things themselves.
An early start, a calm arrival, breakfast snack. Then the first morning circle in both age groups: names, rules, tools. By the end of the morning it is settled who works with whom on which project – and the first children are already drawing.
The big workshop day. Sawing, gluing, screwing and taking apart again. Some build a vehicle, others a ramp for it. Anyone who gets stuck asks the older children for help – that happens all by itself.
After two focused days some balance is needed. Sports and group games in the hall, climbing, balancing, getting out of breath. In the afternoon the workshop opens anyway – voluntarily, and almost everyone comes.
Excursion day. This time into the maize field: finding paths, getting lost, finding each other again. Snacks happen wherever there is room. Back at the site, everyone writes and draws what stuck with them.
The last day belongs to the finished vehicles. Starting numbers, a jury of older children, and a ramp that will hopefully hold. Then a group photo and the question of when the next week is.
Friday, just before the race
The day starts early and ends flexibly. Between the fixed points there is deliberate time in which the children decide what they do.
